Traditional timber sash windows

One of our recent projects has involved fitting new timber sash windows on this pretty Victorian property in the heart of a regeneration area in Fulham.

Part of our client’s work in renovating and restoring the property was to replace the traditional sash windows to improve insulation, security and finish, while retaining the original period features. Traditional Range sash windows

We used our Traditional Range timber sash windows, which although are our thickest sash windows with a double glazing thickness of 24mm, still have a slim and elegant look, with slim meeting rails and section sizes.

The ‘2 over 2’ sash windows with a single glazing bar down the centre of each sash are a classic design of many Victorian and Georgian sash windows, popular before advances in glass production meant that glass could be made in larger sheets and glazing bars were no longer needed.

Our Traditional Range windows are all handmade to order from Engineered Redwood, which is both stable and sustainable. For these windows we used ‘4-16-4’ Argon filled double glazed units for the first and second floors, with ‘4-16-6.8’ units with laminated security glass on the ground floor windows, to give extra security for the most accessible windows.Traditional timber windows

We also use full perimeter compression seals on our windows, which are very effective at reducing draughts and unwanted noise, as well as improving thermal insulation.

This 24mm double glazing gives the best thermal insulation of all our window ranges, with a centre pane U value of just 1.1Wm2K, and a whole window U value of 1.4Wm2K.

As well as the traditional sash windows, we also fitted a new front door on the Fulham property, in a classic Victorian style of 4 solid panels with top light above the door, replicating the original.

Are you looking to replace or repair your timber sash windows or doors?

At Timbawood we specialise in the finest bespoke timber windows and doors for period, conservation and listed properties. Bespoke timber windows

Not only do we sensitively replicate the existing period design of your windows down to the finest details, we also include understated features that upgrade the performance of your windows, including high security hardware, durable and long lasting paint and timber, and specialist glazing options such as slimline double glazing that looks just like single glazing, and acoustic glass for improved sound insulation.

As well as full replacement we can replace the sashes or casements (the moving parts only) and fit them to the existing frames, to retain as much of the original architecture as possible while improving the performance of the window.

We also offer a range of repair and draught proofing services, if windows are in a reparable condition, which is often a popular option for listed properties, where replacement isn’t always possible. Our latest service for listed buildings and properties that aren’t allowed double glazing, is re-glazing with ‘Solo’, our thermally efficient single glazing that reduces heat loss by 38% and noise by 40% more than standard single glazing.
