EDWARDIAN WINDOWS FOR LISTED & CONSERVATION AREAS
Edwardian sash windows and Edwardian casement windows are often either listed or in a conservation area. Our Edwardian windows have been approved for listed and conservation properties by planning authorities throughout London and the South East.
WHAT ARE EDWARDIAN WINDOWS?
Edwardian windows were more than just architectural features; they were the epitome of elegance, inviting an abundance of natural light into a room.
Among the various sash window designs, the ‘six panes over two panes’ configuration was popular. Combining the grace of Georgian style with the ingenuity of Victorian technology, Edwardian-style windows are both elegant and timeless.
Of course, the talented Edwardian joiners faced their share of challenges, just like their Victorian counterparts. The large glass panels demanded ingenious solutions to maintain strength and stability without compromising on aesthetics. Horns were added on sash windows in the Victorian and Edwardian eras to carry the weight of larger panes of glass, to ensure a sturdy, robust sash window.
Edwardian windows perfectly mirrored the spirit of the era’s architecture; a blend of artistry and individuality, distinguishing it from the mass-produced Victorian period. The windows proudly showcased the prosperity of the middle class, boasting unusual glazing bar designs, while staying true to their functional essence.
Intricate, elegant and charming, Edwardian windows captured the essence of the time, leaving an unmistakable mark on the world of architecture and design.
