How long do timber doors last?

Timber doors can last for many years if well-maintained. Typically, a high quality timber sliding or bifold door that receives proper care can endure for several decades or even longer. Our timber doors, specifically those made with Accoya, are backed by a 10-year warranty against distortion, decay or malfunction. However, their lifespan should exceed this warranty period significantly.

How do you maintain timber bifold and sliding doors?

To maintain timber bifold and sliding doors, regularly clean them every six months using a soft cloth and mild detergent in warm water to remove dirt and contaminants. Avoid harsh cleaners or abrasive materials to prevent damage to the wood. Apply silicone-based lubricant to hinges, locks and tracks twice a year to ensure smooth operation. Inspect the doors frequently for signs of damage like cracks or warping, repairing them promptly to prevent further deterioration. When cleaning glass panels, use warm soapy water and a non-abrasive cloth to avoid damaging the glass or frames. Full maintenance guidelines are provided in our Product Care & Maintenance Guide, supplied with all our windows and doors.

Do timber sliding doors freeze in winter?

Timber sliding doors may freeze shut when condensation from the glass drips down into the door track and frame, and freezes; however, this is unlikely to happen with high quality double glazed timber sliding doors. Keeping a home well ventilated and regular maintenance can help to prevent this problem.
