One of our clients in Hampton, South West London, asked us to replicate the beautiful curved French doors that are a key feature of their Georgian property, in a way that would sensitively complement the rest of the windows and doors.
We were asked to come up with a design that would help make the large ‘orangery’ style room warmer, as the existing French doors were single glazed, while staying faithful to the original period features.
The solution we came up with included a traditional slim glazing bar design, with ovolo mouldings, to match the existing Georgian sash windows in the rest of the house, particularly the curved sash windows that feature in one of the wings of the property.
To improve both the thermal and acoustic insulation, the French doors were also made with our slimline double glazing, which looks just like single glazing, and provides all the benefits of double glazing without affecting the elegant design of the doors. To stay authentic to how the doors would have originally been made, we used solid glazing bars which separate each individual glazed unit. We also used toughened glass which further improves the insulation properties of the glazing as well as improving security.

Have a look at our gallery of images to see the complete process from the doors being made in our factory to being fitted by our installation team.
We used Accoya timber to manufacture the doors, which is our first choice of timber because of its strength and durability, so it won’t swell, twist or warp even in damp conditions. It is then coated with three coats of microporous paint which lets the timber breathe while remaining watertight.
At Timbawood all our windows and doors are designed and made onsite at our West London factory, which clients are welcome to visit to see the quality of our windows and doors first hand.
As specialists in timber windows and doors for period, conservation and listed properties, we also manufacture full and part replacement sash windows and casement windows, front doors, bifold doors, as well as offering a range of specialist restoration and repair services.
Our products feature the latest developments in the industry, from technical CAD design to the use of specialist Accoya timber, microporous paint and slimline double glazing, combined with the use of more traditional joinery methods.
